Eco-Art Psychotherapy

Eco-art psychotherapy is an organic and creative journey of finding your way home to your wise self. Eco “oikos,” meaning “home.” It makes sense that we associate Eco with nature being that we are made of earth and the natural world is our original home. We do not exist within nature - we are nature. We are social organisms and karmic creatures, meaning that, biologically, we need each other to survive (attachment) and we need to take action to thrive (adaptive response / nervous system). Rooted in the understanding that we humans are inseparable from earth’s natural systems and that art is any action that connects our internal experience with the external world, eco-art therapy helps us to feel more at home within ourselves.

Eco-art psychotherapy helps to ground us in the present moment, restore nervous system balance, and awaken a deeper sense of wisdom, clarity, and direction.

Sessions are a space for talking, listening, observing, resting, playing, and engaging with nature through somatic practices, meditation, breathing, and reflective creation. Each session may look a little different, meeting you in the present and supporting you to discover what you need. Many people express feeling surprised at how eco-art therapy can be so simple yet deeply profound, enriching, and transformational. This kind of therapeutic process supports you to connect with your true nature, to befriend the unwelcome parts of you, to unhook yourself from the grip of anxiety and depression, and to experience a deeper sense of fulfillment in your relationships and in your life.

Weaving ACT (Acceptance and commitment therapy), EMDR (Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing), Psychedelic-assisted therapy, Nature-based expressive arts therapy, Interpersonal therapy, Reiki energy, Sound healing, Restorative yoga, and Death meditation, Eco-art psychotherapy focuses on protecting and nurturing our natural resources and energy systems. This process involves developing a ground of safety and awareness, creating structures that support and sustain growth, becoming mindful of habitual patterns that disrupt desired functioning, removing obstacles that inhibit thriving, and nourishing cycles of cellular satisfaction.

Acceptance of our bodies and the present moment is key to this work. Our body is a living, breathing, and infinitely intelligent organism coded with billions of years of life experience. Our nervous systems react to the stressors of modern life from a deeply instinctual, physiological, and primal reservoir of memory. Our task now is to translate these ancient messages from our body into conscious and inspired action that serves our health, our relationships, our families and communities, the land, our work, and our dreams.

Who is this work for?

Eco-art psychotherapy is for individuals and couples seeking deeper awareness and connection. I support women, men, queer folks, and couples who are navigating the challenges of trauma including PTSD, as well as anxiety, environmental stress, issues with sex, intimacy, and relationships, life transition, grief/loss, pregnancy and postpartum depression, fear, dying, end-of-life preparation, and spiritual identity development.

I work with people seeking a wide range of support including consistent long-term care, intensive treatment, brief therapy, and routine maintenance. This means meeting for sessions weekly, biweekly, monthly, or seasonally. Most people benefit from weekly sessions to begin, then maybe spacing out to biweekly, then monthly or seasonally as our process develops and grows.

I work with people in a trauma-informed and collaborative way. This means that I understand how culture can create trauma, and how trauma can impact our bodies, minds, and spirits. I work to co-create a sense of safety with the people I serve. This allows us to build a therapeutic relationship together and develop a space of whole-hearted connection for healing, growth, and transformation to blossom naturally.
